بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

33.7-8

وَ اِذْ اَخَذْنَا مِنَ النَّبِیّٖنَ مِیْثَاقَهُمْ وَ مِنْكَ وَ مِنْ نُّوْحٍ وَّ اِبْرٰهِیْمَ وَ مُوْسٰى وَ عِیْسَى ابْنِ مَرْیَمَ۪-وَ اَخَذْنَا مِنْهُمْ مِّیْثَاقًا غَلِیْظًاۙ (7) لِّیَسْــٴَـلَ الصّٰدِقِیْنَ عَنْ صِدْقِهِمْۚ-وَ اَعَدَّ لِلْكٰفِرِیْنَ عَذَابًا اَلِیْمًا۠ (8)

Kanz ul Iman Kanz ul Irfan

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

˹Dear Beloved Prophet,˺ remember when We took, from the Prophets, their oath and from you and from Nūḥ, Mūsā, and ʿĪsā son of Maryam; We took a firm oath from them. That He may question the truthful concerning their truthfulness[1] —and He has prepared painful punishment for the disbelievers.

Commentary

“The truthful” are the noble prophets عَـلَـيْهِمُ السَّلَام and the meaning of “questioning them about truthfulness” is that they will be asked about what they said to their nations and what they propagated to them; or the meaning is that the noble prophets عَـلَـيْهِمُ السَّلَام will be asked about the replies of their people. The purpose of this questioning is to humiliate and disgrace the disbelievers. According to some exegetes, “the truthful” are the believers and “questioning about truthfulness” means asking about their attestation.
